What Happened to 'Elf' Star Daniel Tay, The Actor Who Plays Buddy's Half-Brother Michael

Nineteen years after it was released, Elf remains one of the most beloved and popular Christmas movies of all time.

Of course, two of the most recognizable stars from the film are Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. They remain booked and busy in 2022. However, one actor you might be curious about is Daniel Tay.

Daniel played Buddy’s half-brother Michael Hobbs in the movie. At the time he was a young star of 11 with only a single credit to his name.

He’s 31 years old now, but you won’t see Daniel acting in any new releases. In fact, his career went on a drastically different path.

Aside from Elf, Daniel appeared in movies such as American Splendor and Doogal. His last acting credits listed on IMDb include voice work in 2009′s American Dad! and Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

What’s he been up to since then? According to The U.S. Sun, Daniel is now a teacher.

The child star went to Yale for college where he studied economics. He’s since taken up a job at Veritas Prep where he helps students get ready to take graduate school entrance exams.

He also appears to be at least bilingual since he was commended for his mastery of Mandarin Chinese while in school. Interestingly, his profile on Veritas Prep, which The U.S. Sun quoted, said he’s still working as an actor.

Maybe we’ll see him in new projects in the future?

Speaking of Christmas, check out Olivia Rodrigo‘s new festive bop “The Bels.” Believe it or note, she wrote it at the age of five!
