5 Seconds Of Summer Turn Into Skeletons For 'Valentine' Music Video

5 Seconds Of Summer Turn Into Skeletons For 'Valentine' Music Video

5 Seconds of Summer might have called this song “Valentine”, but the music video is all about Halloween.

The guys – Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – released the new video as a surprise for their fans, where they’re hidden behind skeletons holding up their instruments.

Just recently, 5SOS opened up about this track – the third from their new album – and say it’s their version of a perfect Valentine’s Day anthem.

It’s about how you should treat the person that you’re in love with the same way every day, not just on Valentine’s Day like you think.

5 Seconds of Summer aren’t featured in their new music video for “Youngblood” at all, and yet, it’s still completely awesome.

Directed by Frank Borin and shot in Yoyogi Park in Japan, the video showcases the Japanese Rockbility culture.

“There are many wonderful, interesting, and captivating subcultures all over the world. In every corner of this earth there are groups of inventors, visionaries, thrill seekers, and boundary pushers,” Ashton Irwin shared about the video. “These wonderful worlds that people have created, spread, and effect everyone that comes into contact with them.”

He added, “The Japanese Rockabilly culture is that of a renaissance and a beautiful flare of passion for everything old and new and that makes this particular subculture so interesting and amazing to us. We hope you enjoy this video. Thank you for allowing us to be explorative with the concepts we choose to visually express our songs to you. Thank you to everyone that brought this video to life.”

5 Seconds of Summer pose backstage before performing at the Tumblr IRL event held at National Sawdust on Monday night (June 25) in New York City.

In a recent interview, Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin opened up about how they’re learning not to put themselves in a pop-punk box.

“Our purpose as a band is very different than other bands. We’re not necessarily a one-genre band,” Ashton shared with Billboard. “I don’t think anybody really is anymore, but that goes back to who our influences are.”

He continues, “…I think our purpose as a band is to make whatever comes whatever we’re influenced by. We’re not one set thing.”
