The guys have been tweeting loads of thanks to their fans for all the support for their new album, even if they don’t get that #1.
“I am have a solitary moment of great-fullness, and I am letting go of the numbers games that come with art sometimes,” Ashton wrote on Twitter. “A number 1 album would be amazing. But at the heart of this incredible situation, I am just happy people are listening. Thank you everyone for just.. listening”
However, Michael is kind of stoked about the numbers and the potential to make chart history.
He added, “to think that 4 dudes from Western Sydney could even have a chance against two of the most successful artists of all time is insane. we would be the first band in history to have our first three albums go #1 in the US. we are so close. 5sos fam for life.”
“I think mentally we were all a bit burned out after working for four years straight,” Calum shared. “We were surrounded by noise for four years, and we came off that tour and had four months off, and for the first time ever it was just silent. We were thrown out in LA and told, ‘all right, go and build your lives again’. So at that time we were all very lost.”
He adds, “It was hard to rebuild your personal life from the ground up. What drove the new album lyrically and sonically, is us regathering and rediscovering who we were as individuals, but also who 5 Seconds of Summer are and what message we wanted to portray.”
Having that break though, helped them come back with an amazing new album.
“It feels like it’s exactly who we are,” Luke says. “A band we’re comfortable with in our twenties.”
“You are Gorgeous. The way you have responded to Youngblood is a dream,” Ashton wrote.
Calum added, “Thank you to anyone who has played a role in the making of this album. So proud of my brothers for creating a body of work that represents fully where we are today as artists and as people.”
“favorite album ever,” Michael wrote with a short video. “We love you guys so much. thank you for your undying support on this record.”
Ahead of the concert, the group opened up about how their musical transformation since their last album.
“Musically, we’re loving what we do still. It sounds a little different. It’s something that we love, and something we want to play for a long time. So, yeah, it’s changed in those ways,” Ashton explained.
Ariana Grande flashes the peace sign as she arrives as she arrives at the 2018 iHeartRadio’s KIIS FM Wango Tango on Saturday (June 2) at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
The 24-year-old singer looked pretty in a pink sweatshirt as she got ready to hit the stage for a performance during the show.
“We had the chance to give you ‘YOUNGBLOOD’ early. So we took it. JUNE 15TH. X,” Calum wrote on Twitter.
On top of the title track and comeback single, “Want You Back”, the new album will also feature “Valentine”, “Talk Fast”, “Better Man”, “Woke Up In Japan”, “Babylon” and more.
