The 26-year-old actress stars as Vera Brittain in the film, based on the real person’s memoir during the war.
“The first thing I did was to read the memoir, but my own preparation was the letters and the correspondence between Vera Brittain and her fianc�, and brother, and friends during the war,” Alicia explained on the red carpet of preparing for the movie.
She added, “Also the diary notes and meeting Shirley Williams – who invited me to share her own memories and experiences of her mother. The letters are the words from that time, from that young woman whilst the memoir was written by a woman in her mid-30s looking back at her own experiences. Those letters were my true treasure.”

The 25-year-old actress picked up the honor for her work in Hotell, where she plays Erika, a new mother who suffers from post-natal depression.
“Many women go through [postnatal depression] if they have a family, but it’s still a very taboo subject; I’ve never really seen it portrayed on screen,” Alicia shared with Refinery29. “I mean, I didn’t even really know how it would work just by reading the script. I would end up laughing just two, three pages straight after some extremely moving, horrific scene. I was quite amazed at how Lisa was able to bring it all to the screen.”
