In “Let Her Go”, After assigning tasks to each of her friends, Caroline attempts to deal with her current situation as reality begins to set in around her. While spending the day with Caroline, Elena grows concerned when she starts noticing a strange change in her behavior.
Meanwhile, Alaric (Matt Davis) becomes wary when Kai (Chris Wood), who has begun experiencing unexpected consequences from the merge, turns to Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), desperate for her help.

“I’m not here because your mom asked me to look after you,” Stefan told her, adding that he’s there, “Because you’re my friend. Because I know what it’s like to lose a mother. Because when you told me you hated me, that’s pretty much the worst thing I had heard in a long time.”

In “Stay”, It’s Jeremy’s last day in Mystic Falls and Elena (Nina Dobrev) puts on a brave face as they reminisce about their past. Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) find themselves growing closer as they prepare Caroline’s family cabin for her mother to live out her final days.
While packing up her office, Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacInytre) turns to Damon (Ian Somerhalder) for help solving one of her remaining open cases involving Elena’s parents.
Elsewhere, when a violent confrontation with Enzo (Michael Malarkey) leaves Jeremy wondering whether he should leave or not, Matt (Zach Roerig) finds his own life on the line after Enzo lures him and Sarah Salvatore (Tristan Mays) into his dangerous plan.

After Tyler (Michael Trevino) finds out that the merge is happening sooner than he expected, he urges Liv to let him talk to her father.
Meanwhile, after Caroline’s plan to cure her mother takes an unexpected and devastating turn, Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) gather at the hospital, while Jo attempts to save Sheriff Forbes’ (Marguerite MacIntyre) life.
