Shameik Moore Thought He Would Be A Musician Before An Actor

Shameik Moore suits up as a triple threat for his cover feature with Grumpy magazine’s Issue No 15!

The 24-year-old Let It Snow actor, musician, and dancer opened up about Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, shooting two projects at once, and more.

On being an actor first before a musician: “I thought I was going to be a musician first. But now that I’m here and I’m able to do this, I have these eyes open. My evolution has been humbling.”

On Spider-Man: “It was a blessing to be a part of that. I’ve always wanted to be a black Spider-Man, but it was animated so the challenge was to do the best that I can vocally, to bring this character Miles Morales to life.”

On shooting Wu-Tang: An American Saga and Let It Snow at the same time: “These two projects, Wu-Tang and Let It Snow, were offers and blessings from God. I’m being blessed and I’m taking advantage of these opportunities. The producers worked it out for me to be able to shoot both at the same time, so I was doing both characters at the exact same time.”

Hayley Kiyoko Opens Up About The Importance of Having LGBTQ+ Allies

Hayley Kiyoko is giving thanks for her fans’ support in the new issue of them. magazine.

The 28-year-old musician calls her fans ‘colorful’ while describing them in the feature, as well as opens up about relationship advice and the importance of allies. Check it:

On finding inspiration in relationship troubles and finding a partner fully comfortable being in a lesbian relations: “You want to have a partner who is ready to experience the things that you’re ready to experience. It can be frustrating when you fall in love with someone who’s maybe not there yet and you don’t want to put pressure on them, because it’s their own experience and we all know how difficult it is to be comfortable with who you are. It can become a very complicated dance in a relationship.”

On her supportive fanbase: “If people don’t believe in you, then… it’s tough. So I’m very grateful to have that support. [My fanbase is] small, strong, and mighty, but it’s growing and eventually, it will be very mainstream…. [They are] very passionate and colorful. I like the word ‘colorful’ because there’s a large spectrum of people out there, and they all have this glistening hope or need for hope, and I think that we all hold onto that. They brighten my day, and I think that they help other people and each other. I feel like they’re a very positive fan base, which I’m very proud of. They lift people up and defend each other. I like that a lot about them.”

On the importance of allies, including Taylor Swift: “[Allies] are just as important as people in the community supporting their community because they are taking the time to fight someone else’s fight. I think that exposure and validation goes a very long way no matter where it comes from… I can only speak for myself, but [Taylor Swift] has been very supportive of my music and she doesn’t have to be. It means a lot because she’s letting people know, ‘Hey, she’s gay, but she’s also really cool and normal.’ I’m very grateful for her friendship.”

Ava Michelle Talks Finding Self-Love In This Day & Age

Ava Michelle does the splits on a ladder on the side of a building in her feature with Grumpy magazine!

The 17-year-old entertainer opened up about her future career plans, finding self-love, and more. Check it out:

On self-love: “Self-love is so difficult to find in this day and age. For [Tall Girl] to be a PG movie that you can sit down and watch with your entire family, and they can all get this message, is just amazing… My mom would always tell me that if you don’t believe in yourself, what gives anyone else the right to believe in you? I’ve really learned that in the past year that just believing in yourself, it makes such a difference.”

On her #13Reasons4Me campaign: “Thinking about what I wanted, I realized how much of a negative space the mirror was, and I think it’s really important to turn it into a place for confidence. When you actually say those things to yourself, it makes you feel something you’ve never felt before. We don’t do that enough. We don’t tell ourselves we are worth it enough.”

On releasing more music: “I’m working with Luke [Eisner], my co-star who plays Stig [in Tall Girl]. his band is helping me produce and write my singles… Music is the thing you can really get personal with without people really knowing what it’s about.”

Brenda Song Never Thought About Her Appearance When Auditioning

Brenda Song Never Thought About Her Appearance When Auditioning

Brenda Song is a golden beauty for her feature in Grumpy magazine‘s Issue No 15!

The Dollface actress opened up about auditioning, Suite Life of Zach & Cody, and her mom’s breast cancer diagnosis. Check it out:

On auditioning for any role: “I think it’s that mentality [you have] when you’re younger and you have no fear, because I didn’t even think about the fact that I didn’t look like everyone else… [I] go audition, read for the characters, and not think about anything else but to go in there and give the best audition regardless of what the role is asking for… All I wanted to do was to act so I went in.”

On her Dollface cast being like their characters: “I’m definitely the most like Madison. I’m the one who would schedule everything and start a group chat letting the other girls know that we are meeting at that place and time. Kat is more of a homebody. Shay traveled the world, so if you need a restaurant recommendation, she knows everyone and everything. Esther is always cheerful. So we are actually those characters – obviously not that extreme.”

On being there for her mom through her breast cancer diagnosis: “When I first learned about my mom diagnosis, I was 16 [and] working on Suite Life. I was so scared… I was sitting there with my mom at her doctor’s appointment, asking the questions that I thought were silly and dumb, seeing what kind of options were out there and what treatment she was doing. All of those things were so helpful for me… Being there and supporting my mom is more important to me than anything I will ever do in my career.”

Katherine McNamara Dishes About How Shadowhunters Fans Made The Show Much More Than Just Magical Creatures

Katherine McNamara Dishes About How Shadowhunters Fans Made The Show Much More Than Just Magical Creatures

Katherine McNamara is lit up in bright blue in this amazing shot from her A Book Of feature.

The 24-year-old actress opened up in the glossy about her role on Arrow, and how Shadowhunters fans are still close to her heart. Check it:

On booking the role of Mia Smoak: “It has been a huge gift and it was a big responsibility. When I first started filming, I didn’t know that Mia was Oliver Queen’s kid. In fact she wasn’t even named Mia at that time. And when I found out who her character was, I knew immediately that I have my work cut out for me. Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards have spent so many years doing it.”

On her character Mia Smoak: “The people that I love are people that I keep very closely. And like Mia, I will do anything for the people that I consider family; the people that are close to me.”

On Shadowhunters’s legacy: “The fans took a show that was about magical creatures, angels and demons and they fought to the core; to the heart of the characters, to what the story is really about – about love and acceptance, and about the fact that no matter who you are and no matter what you’re made of, you have the potential to be a hero based on the choices that you make.”

A portion of the proceeds for this issue will be going to Girl Up campaign.

Malala Yousafzai Speaks Up About The Next Steps Of Activism: Make A Change & Get More Involved

Malala Yousafzai Speaks Up About The Next Steps Of Activism: Make A Change & Get More Involved

Malala Yousafzai stands tall on the new cover of Teen Vogue magazine.

The now 22-year-old world activist is opening up about youth rising up and speaking out about the issues important to them, and what she’s hoping for the future. Check it:

On what the next 10 years of youth activism will hold: “What has given me hope is that the last decade was a decade of youth activism, but the next one is going to be about youth change-making, and that’s what gives me hope. It’s like we have done our activism; we have done enough to raise our voice. And I think the next step is now let’s make the change, let’s be the change-makers, let’s get more involved in this.”

On the millions of young people who hit the streets for action on climate change: “For me to see millions and millions of young people, not just in the U.S., not just in the U.K. — the so-called developed countries — but from all across the world, in Pakistan, in India, in Kenya, you see these young girls, especially women that are coming forward, and you also see older people in the crowds — I think that’s when you realize how powerful the voices of these young people can be. And I think awareness is important. That’s the first step towards a change.”

On the emergence of other young female activists in the years since she became one of the first internationally recognized teen activists: “Six years ago, I was receiving global support, and I was happy that this time they were listening to young people. Sometimes in rooms with decision-makers, they don’t have any young people at the table; they don’t even have women, let alone young people. So just to have the voices of young people present there, just to have women being present at those tables, I think it’s a huge difference. And we have seen huge progress over the last few years, and now to see that young girls like Emma [González] and Greta are coming forward and they’re talking about climate change, they are talking about gun violence, and they’re talking about these different issues that are impacting all of us and especially what’s going to affect the future generations. There are hundreds and thousands of women and girls in all parts of the world who are standing up. Some of them we don’t even know — their names would never be known — but they’re changing their communities.”
