“Me when the government comes knocking on my door for the draft,” James tweeted along with several photos of himself wearing wigs and dresses.

After the tweet, many people slammed James for dressing up as a woman and joking about the draft, especially since Trump banned trans individuals from serving in the military.

“Trans women get killed for purely existing and ur out here being all 😁😁😁😁😁I am going to dress as a woman to avoid being drafted even though I am a cis white gay 😂😂😂😂😂 cut the s–t james,” one person tweeted back.

James then clarified his tweet, writing, “Just to clarify, this tweet has nothing to do with the trans military ban, which I obviously do not support. it’s a lighthearted joke regarding the fact that I had to register for the draft when I turned 18, just like every other boy, & i don’t wanna fight in a war. that’s all.”

Colleen Ballinger & James Charles Talk Cancel Culture & Being There For Him During Summer Beauty Drama

Colleen Ballinger & James Charles Talk Cancel Culture & Being There For Him During Summer Beauty Drama

Colleen Ballinger and James Charles are opening up about their thoughts on cancel culture.

In a new “Carpool Karaoke” video on James‘ channel, the two friends talked about the beauty drama last summer and how she wanted to be there for her friend.

“I was concerned because I don’t like when anyone is going through it, no matter what the situation is, I think bullying is so horrible. Whether people think it’s warranted bullying or not,” Colleen said. “I was just checking in on you. We just had a sweet conversation.”

“I hung up the phone and started sobbing,” James replied. “It was when I was in Australia, and you called me… You, honestly, have been such an amazing friend to me for a long time now.”

“I don’t like cancel culture. I think it’s important to call people out when they make mistakes, and I think it’s important to hold people accountable when they do things wrong,” Colleen continued. “I don’t like when people just don’t listen to every side of the story, and don’t come at it with empathy for anyone.”

“When I called you, I didn’t see James Charles the internet person, I just saw a human who was struggling, and I saw my friend… I didn’t know what was going on, I didn’t know what the truth was, I didn’t know anything. All I knew was that you were getting bullied pretty badly and I wanted to make sure you were okay, regardless of whatever the situation was,” she added.

James Charles Doesn't Still Want To Be a Beauty Influencer at 70

James Charles is opening up about the toxicity of cancel culture in his new feature with Paper magazine, months after he was “cancelled” himself.

The 20-year-old beauty influencer came under fire following Tati Westbrook‘s accusations and comtiplated not returning to YouTube.

“I could’ve easily continued to fuel the fire and thrown back a million other accusations,” James shared with the magazine. “We chose to keep it to the facts and really work on addressing the issues at hand with my fanbase that I knew I needed to clear up, rather than just creating more fight.”

He adds, “Everybody was just gonna go down. The online community, especially in the beauty space, is already suffering a lot in terms of drama. The last thing I wanted to do was add to that.”

James also address whether he’d still be doing this when he’s older.

“If I am sitting here until I’m 70 years old, blending my eyeshadow and filming tutorials, please, somebody unplug my camera and kick me out,” he adds.

However, he’s open to explore singing along with “tour opportunities, filming bigger-scale projects or production.”
