Wish Upon has finally shared the first trailer for the upcoming horror movie!
Joey King and Ryan Phillippe star in the film, which follows high schooler Clare Shannon as she deals with school bullies, her hoarder father and the aftermath of her mother’s suicide.
Things quickly change when she discovers a mystical music box that promises to fulfill seven wishes. Even as Clare watches in horror as her wants have deadly consequences, she’s desperate to hold onto her new life and power.
Joey King will head to the big screen again in The Kissing Booth.
The Netflix original movie, based on teen author Beth Reekles‘ YA novel, will be directed by Vince Marcello (he directed Teen Beach Movie)!
Joey, alongside The Breakfast Club‘s Molly Ringwald, will travel to South Africa to shoot the film.
The rom-com focuses on “Elle Evans, a 16-year-old girl who’s popular and loves to party but has never been kissed. Things take a turn when she ends up in a kissing booth at Spring Carnival, facing her long-term crush – her best friend’s brother, Noah. The course of love never did run smoothly and the narrative charts the ups and downs of infatuation as Elle is swept up in a romance with the hottest boy in school.” (via Deadline)
Here’s a synopsis of the film: Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old Clare Shannon (King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father Jonathan (Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.
The movie hits theaters on June 30, 2017 – be sure to check it out!
