Man Accused of Groping Taylor Swift Mailed Her the $1 She Won in Trial

Taylor Swift will be receiving a $1 coin in the mail very soon.

The 27-year-old “Look What You Made Me Do” singer won her court case against former DJ David Mueller back in August. David says he mailed her a Sacajawea $1 coin at the end of November, according to the AP.

David originally sued Taylor, claiming she falsely accused him of groping her at a meet-and-greet back in 2013. She then counter-sued – for $1 – hoping to serve as an example to other women publicly decrying sexual harassment.

“I figured that if he would be brazen enough to assault me under these risky circumstances and high stakes, imagine what he might do to a vulnerable, young artist if given the chance,” Taylor told Time.

Taylor Swift Turned to Kesha for Advice During Groping Case

Taylor Swift Turned to Kesha for Advice During Groping Case

Taylor Swift is revealing how she turned to Kesha for help throughout her sexual assault trial.

The “Call It What You Want” singer was taken to court by a radio DJ after she came forward that he groped her during a photo opp. Taylor won and requested a symbolic one dollar from him.

During her court proceedings, Taylor turned to the “Rainbow” singer, who is currently embroiled in her own legal battle against her former producer Dr. Luke, whom she claims sexually assaulted and emotionally abused her.

“People have been largely very supportive of my story since the trial began in August,” Taylor told Time in her Person of the Year cover story, “but before that, I spent two years reading headlines referring to it as ‘The Taylor Swift Butt Grab Case’ with internet trolls making a joke about what happened to me. The details were all skewed, as they often are. … I spoke to Kesha on the phone and it really helped to talk to someone who had been through the demoralizing court process.”

Taylor Swift Profiled By 'Time' After #MeToo Movement Named Person of the Year

Taylor Swift Profiled By 'Time' After #MeToo Movement Named Person of the Year

Time‘s Person of the Year for 2017 is the “silence breakers” – aka those who have come forward as part of the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct – and Taylor Swift is one of those being profiled.

If you don’t know, the 27-year-old entertainer was taken to court by a radio DJ after she came forward that he groped her during a photo opp.

“When I testified, I had already been in court all week and had to watch this man’s attorney bully, badger and harass my team including my mother over inane details and ridiculous minutiae, accusing them, and me, of lying. My mom was so upset after her cross-examination, she was physically too ill to come to court the day I was on the stand. I was angry,” Taylor said. “In that moment, I decided to forego any courtroom formalities and just answer the questions the way it happened. This man hadn’t considered any formalities when he assaulted me, and his lawyer didn’t hold back on my mom—why should I be polite? I’m told it was the most amount of times the word ‘ass’ has ever been said in Colorado Federal Court.”

Taylor then gave advice to people who may be in a similar situation as she was. “My advice is that you not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you. You should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you,” Taylor said.

In addition, Taylor revealed she never did receive the money she was awarded from the courts – a symbolic one dollar.

“When the jury found in my favor, the man who sexually assaulted me was court-ordered to give me a symbolic $1. To this day he has not paid me that dollar, and I think that act of defiance is symbolic in itself,” she said.
