Callie Still Might Be In Legal Trouble on 'The Fosters'

Callie Still Might Be In Legal Trouble on 'The Fosters'

Throughout the entire season premiere of The Fosters, our hearts were going a mile a minute and rightfully so.

After Callie was rescued by Stef from the sex-trafficking ring, Stef put Callie in her place by telling her she needs to value her own life.

“Callie has a ferocious sense of justice. She’s got strength and power. [But] she doesn’t have any ability to apply her best thinking to herself,” EP Peter Paige told TVLine about Callie’s ongoing story.

Maia Mitchell, who plays the character, told TVGuide that this really is a turning point for her.

“She really realizes that as much as she wants to help people, she often puts herself in really dangerous positions,” she says. “That really affects the people in her life and I think the whole experience really cuts deep for her.”

Maia adds, “She really takes it on and tries to kind of take a different road. It’s all about self-improvement for her this season.”

That’s great that Callie is now on a straighter path, but that doesn’t mean she’s out of legal trouble just yet.

I will just say, as in the real world, justice is not always a straight line, nor always entirely clear-sighted,” Peter says.

Next episode, now please!

Maia Mitchell Would Give Callie This Advice For 'The Fosters' Season 5 (Exclusive)

What would Maia Mitchell do if she were in the position of her character on The Fosters?

JJJ recently asked her what advice she’d give Callie going into the fifth season.

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Maia Mitchell

“Callie is such an impulsive person and when she puts herself in all of these life threatening situations,” Maia told us. “I really don’t know what advice I would give her, other than to avoid the situation entirely.”

“Callie always seems to get herself out safely,” she added. “She’s good under pressure. But you’re going to see her realize that that can’t always be the case.”

In case you missed it, see what Maia told us about the family this season, and Callie’s complicated relationship with Brandon (David Lambert).

The Fosters premieres on Tuesday, July 11 at 8/7c on Freeform.

Maia Mitchell Says 'The Fosters' Season 5 is a 'Turning Point' For Callie (Exclusive)

Maia Mitchell Says 'The Fosters' Season 5 is a 'Turning Point' For Callie (Exclusive)

Maia Mitchell is giving us the goods on Callie’s journey on The Fosters this summer.

JJJ recently caught up with her about the upcoming fifth season.

“Season five is a real turning point for Callie. The situation that plays out in our premiere episode is a huge wake-up call for Callie that she can’t keep making these dangerous, impulsive decisions and it really informs her choices moving forward,” Maia told us. “You see her making huge efforts to be more grounded, she invests a lot of her energy in her art and really tries to anchor herself in that space and explore who she is as an artist. Of course it may not always work! But she’s trying.”

“As far as the family is concerned, as well-intentioned as these kids are, they attract trouble so you won’t see Stef or Lena catch a break this season,” she said.

This season also tackles a very real issue in sex trafficking.

“Sex trafficking is an issue I care about, my parents shared the research with my brother and I growing up,” Maia said. “What is particularly shocking is that the numbers are growing. Human trafficking grew 35 percent in 2017, and that’s in the United States alone so it’s a growing issue and one that is not often in the spotlight. I’m really glad our writers took the opportunity to shine a light to this issue.”

'The Fosters' Brothers Brandon & Jesus Will Still Have Trust Issues in Season 5

'The Fosters' Brothers Brandon & Jesus Will Still Have Trust Issues in Season 5

The Fosters is back in two days and JJJ can hardly wait.

While we’re all anxious to see what actually happens with Callie (Maia Mitchell), we NEED to know how Brandon (David G. Lambert) and Jesus (Noah Centineo) are ever going to get along again.

“They’re going to have their issues, for sure,” EP Joanna Johnson told TVGuide about the brothers. “We’re not just going to kiss and make up.”

It will take some time for Brandon and Jesus to actually trust each other again, it looks like.

“They’re going to go through a journey with each other of trying to regain trust,” she adds. “Again, part of Jesus’ TBI is that he doesn’t see things completely logically and maybe can’t really process things like someone without a brain injury.”

And about Jesus’ injury…it will still be a big issue that he’ll have to deal with for a long time.

“We really wanted to be true to that so he doesn’t just instantly get better,” she says. “He’s still struggling a lot. He’s not back at school yet. He’s trying to figure out what his future is. He still has trouble with these outbursts, emotionally and physically…This is something that is going to be a long-term recovery for him, and the family because it affects everyone.”

The Fosters premieres on Tuesday, July 11th @ 8PM ET/PT on Freeform.
