Where Is 'The Kissing Booth's Sequel Announcement? Author Beth Reekles Offers Up Possible Storyline

Last summer, we were blessed with The Kissing Booth, starring Joey King, Joel Courtney and Jacob Elordi.

Well, it’s officially 2019 and we’re still waiting on news about a sequel.

The movie, which is still streaming, was revealed as the most watched original movie on Netflix for the year – so why don’t we have a sequel happening?

Many fans, and author Beth Reekles, are still wondering about that. While she doesn’t have a reason at all, she does have some ideas about how a sequel could happen.

“I’m not a hundred percent sure, but I think there’s a couple ways that [a sequel] could potentially work,” Beth shared with IBT recently. “For instance, if I wrote a second book, there wouldn’t necessarily be a second movie, and equally I think there could be a second movie without me having a second book. But, at the minute, I’m just kind of crossing my fingers and hoping that someone decides that there will be one, because it did pretty well as a movie.”

She adds that it would be fun for a sequel, although she doesn’t regret her ending for the story.

“It might not happen, it might, I just have to kind of cross my fingers and see what happens.”

Joey King is doing things right and celebrating the fact that The Kissing Booth was Netflix‘s most re-watched original film with this video.

In the funny Instagram visual, Joey actually pulls down co-star Joel Courtney‘s pants before a game.

“In honor of #TheKissingBooth being the most rewatched @netflix movie of 2018, here’s a video of me being a complete and total 5 year old little boy,” she wrote. “Sorry Joel.”

'The Kissing Booth' & 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before' Were Netflix's Most-Rewatched Original Movies of 2018

The Kissing Booth and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before were two films that not only dominated JJJ this year, but were also Netflix‘s most rewatched original movies of the year too!

Netflix released the short list of films that viewers watched, and rewatched again and again and we are hardly surprised.

The two films join Roxanne Roxanne on “The Movies We Fell in Love with This Year” list, which was based on films released between January 1st to November 28th, with the highest rewatch rate and was based on global viewing. Ranking on this list has no relation to overall viewing.

Kissing Booth's Joel Courtney Reveals His Favorite Memory From Filming

Joel Courtney strikes a pose for his brand-new photo shoot featured in Da Man magazine’s latest issue.

Here’s what the Kissing Booth and Super 8 actor had to share with the mag:

On what makes The Kissing Booth stand out from other rom-coms set in high school:The Kissing Booth stands apart from the crowd. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talked to who said ‘Elle was going to break up with Noah and realize Lee is the one for her.’ And I told them all: ‘Well, if that’s what you think maybe you should go watch the movie and be surprised.’ There is warmth and hope throughout the movie. This movie has optimism for love and kindness that I don’t feel most movies have anymore.”

On what first drew him to The Kissing Booth: “My character. Lee is similar to myself. If you stripped away all of my inhibitions, filters and worries in the world, I would be Lee. And of course the friendship between Lee and Elle. This character was so perfect for me that a friend told me if I didn’t book it I should quit acting. Thank God I booked it!”

On his fondest memory from working on the movie: “The harmony on set between Joey King, Jacob Elordi and myself. We were inseparable. The chemistry shines through in one of my favorite scenes: When we have our big falling out and all go our separate ways. That sequence is so heartbreaking to the fans because it was heartbreaking to us. And at the end of that day I thing we had a big group hug and got some thick shakes.”
