Lucy Hale Is The New 'Voice Of Meningitis'

Lucy Hale heads out to dinner at Gracias Madre on Saturday night (May 16) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 26-year-old Pretty Little Liars actress just returned from New York City where she was promoting her new role for Voices of Meningitis.

“Voices of Meningitis is an initiative whose goal is to educate people about meningococcal meningitis” Lucy shared with Teen Vogue. “It’s a rare but deadly disease that can take the life of an otherwise healthy person. What makes it so scary is how hard it is to detect since the symptoms are flu-like.”

Lucy will also be judging “Boost the Volume,” an a cappella competition for high schools across the country to up awareness of the cause.

“What amazes me is the power of social media, and I think that is really going to help us get the message out,” she added. “We’re using the #BoostTheBooster hashtag and that’s such a powerful way to spread the word. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere and feel like no one is listening, just talking to one person about the disease means you’re doing a good job. I wanted to lend my voice because I don’t often get to do something that could potentially save a life, and I’m grateful I can do my part.”
