OlderAriana Grande Joins 'Hairspray Live' as Penny
Ariana Grande has landed the role of Penny in Hairspray Live!
The 23-year-old entertainer announced the news in a series of tweets.
“I AM NOWWW A CHECKERBOARD CHICK #HairsprayLive #Penny” Ariana wrote on Twitter. “Penny has been a dream role since Hairspray opened on Broadway. At 9, I was (and still am) in LOVE w @KerryButlerNyc. hope to make u proud.”
“‘M GOING TO BE IN A SHOW WITH @HarveyFierstein AND @KChenoweth IS THIS AN ACTUAL JOKE ………………. ?,” Ariana continued. “anyway… I’m so honored and beyond excited to be a part of this dream cast…… I will for sure pass out at the table read. #HairsprayLive”
Kristin Chenoweth, Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough, and Maddie Baillio will also star in the live show. It will air on December 7 on NBC.
