Derek Hough really dove into the Corny Collins character for Hairspray Live!

Corny Collins was based on a real person � Buddy Deane, and his show was actually cancelled because he was all for integration in the 1960s!

“That integration really changed not just culture and humanity, but dance,” he shared with NKD mag. “Me being a dancer and learning the history of it, and seeing where all these moves and trends came from, it’s pretty cool…It’s about that time and what it meant. To do The Twist was considered vulgar.”
