EXCLUSIVE: R5 Wouldn't Rule Out A Collab Album With New Beat Fund

R5 and New Beat Fund have one of the best friendships ever, so it was a no brainer to have them rap on “Red Velvet”.

Ross and Rocky Lynch dished about the unplanned collaboration with JJJ, ahead of their New Addictions EP dropping.

“We were writing a completely different song with them and they wrote a rap for this one song,” Ross explains. “After we had ‘Red Velvet’ all done, we were like hey, ‘why don’t we just put that rap in there as a placeholder?’ We shopped around for other rappers to potentially take this spot, but that rap, just fit the song the best.”

He adds, “It was the cherry on top. We couldn’t have that song without that rap. The song that the rap is originally from, we’re actually completing that right now and that might be released too, with the same exact rap (laughs). It was a surprising fit.”

Rocky reveals that the rap you hear might turn up in another song too.

“The other song that we were writing with them is actually slower, so we took his exact rap take and sped it up,” he says. “It now has this cool chorus effect just by changing the time of it and it fits perfectly. It gave the rap an entirely new feel because we did that.”

“Red Velvet” is going to be one of your favorite new songs off the EP, so JJJ had to ask about future collabs with New Beat Fund, or even an entire album.

“I wouldn’t write that off!” Ross said. “We’re in the studio every day with them. It could be something like Arcade Fire, just with all of us. I would love to do that.”

Stay tuned for the album stream tonight!
