'Reign' Recap: Mary Did The Ultimate Thing For Her Newborn Son

Good news — Mary is alive on Reign and so is her newborn son, James!

We wipe that part of our worries off, while a new set of worries comes in — and it has everything to do with Darnley and his wicked mother, Lady Lennox.

JJJ knows our history, he probably should’ve been off the show a while ago — but you know, drama.

Click inside to find out everything that happened with Mary/Darnley/Baby James/Bothwell…

– Darnley has syphilis! No doubt from sleeping around…but Mary, being Mary, doesn’t make him suffer (or does she?) — she sends him off to get treatment.
– Both Lord Bothwell (swoon!) and Lady Lennox have a problem with that. Bothwell’s reason is obvious, Lennox’s reason is that she thinks her son in the golden one and deserves all the riches in life (um, not with what he’s been doing lady!).
– Right when Mary is deep in conversation (see: frustrating to the ends of the earth fight) with Lennox, she goes into labor, and it proves to be a very, very, very difficult labor.
– But all while Mary is in labor, Lennox goes to fetch her son, bringing him back to the castle and together, they try to overthrow the Queen while she’s bringing a life into the world.
– Lennox and Darnley have planned to have the privy council make Darnley the Steward to the Heir, giving him full control over their son and the ability to keep Mary away from her own child. (Why was this ever legal?)
– And Mary can’t tell anyone Darnley has syphilis at all — or, you know, they’ll tell everyone it was Mary who gave it to him.

So, what does Mary do?

Despite being on the brink of war with cousin Queen Elizabeth I, she writes a letter for help from her.

See, the testament of a mother’s love!

In the letter Mary explains that she wants Elizabeth to promise to take care of her son should anything happen to her; and if Elizabeth never has children, Mary wants her cousin to make Mary’s son heir to both their kingdoms. In return, she promises to leave the English throne alone.

But just when you thought that was it, it’s not.

When Mary is writing this letter, Darnley gets a little one-on-one time with his son and when Mary hears about that, and everything else, she runs to her son’s side…but the nursery is empty!

Seriously, we are really going to miss this show!
