Grace VanderWaal Reveals The True Story Behind Her New Song 'Moonlight' & It's Video

If you look closely, Grace VanderWaal is telling a big and important story with her new song and video for “Moonlight”.

The musician spoke to Rookie mag about how she connected a friends’ struggle with depression to her music.

“It’s something a lot of people are afraid to talk about and they shouldn’t [be afraid] because it’s a real thing and it happens to the best of us�it happens to a lot of people�and the song was heavily inspired by that,” she says.

Grace goes on to talk about how her friends’ struggle really spoke to her.

“Honestly, it’s a really hard process,” Grace says. “If someone’s going through that, they’re not thinking clearly. They’re kind of in their own world.”

She adds, “If you try to talk to them, they’ll probably get angry at you, but you just have to try to get them involved and understand what’s happening. They are the one who decides if they get better or not.”
