Raven Symone Reveals Why Raven & Devon Are Divorced in 'Raven's Home'

Ever since we found out that Raven Symone was returning to Disney Channel in Raven’s Home, we’ve been so excited — especially when we learned that Jonathan McDaniel will also be back as Devon, her high school love.

However, we were kind of bummed out to learn that Raven and Devon would actually be divorced in the new series.

Speaking with Seventeen, Raven opened up about what led to the divorce between the characters.

“I was a part of that decision to have Devon as Raven’s ex-husband,” she shared. “Everyone was torn with the decision – who should it be? I’ve always found Raven’s relationship with Devon interesting. And like, how about a little bit of nostalgia?”

“They were high school sweethearts, but things change. People marry their high school sweethearts and then they grow up and things change.”

But it’s okay between both Raven and Devon, she adds: “Things are good because there’s still friendship there.”

During discussions about the couple, Raven really wanted to shed on light on how divorces aren’t always ugly ones. There are some that are amicable and the parents that choose not to be together because it’s better for their family.

“There are so many types of divorces portrayed on TV but we wanted to go the route of you can have a happy divorce,” she adds. “We’re friends! He’s a very involved dad, and we get along. I’m sure we’ve had our issues in the past but for the kids, our issues are in the past.”
