Willow Smith Taught Her Dad an Important Lesson When She Shaved Her Head

Willow Smith was only 11 years old when she went on tour for her single “Whip My Hair” — and at that young age especially, it’s important that her family listened to her needs and desires.

In a new interview, Will Smith opened up about why Willow decided to make make the dramatic move of shaving her head, and how it made him a better father for it.

Willow wanted to end the tour and go home, but Will refused to listen — so she retaliated by shaving her head in the midst of a tour that was all about, well, hair.

“I’m looking at that girl and I’m like, ‘Got it. I understand,’” Will said in Jay-Z‘s new “Footnotes of Adnis” video, “‘You will not have this trouble out of me ever again. Let’s go, baby. We can go.’”

It made Will realize that he hadn’t been taking Willow‘s young age and emotions into account.

“For me, it was that soldier that was pushing and wasn’t paying any attention whatsoever to what was going on emotionally with this beautiful little creature in front of me,” he continued.

We’re so glad that the experience was able to make Will more in-tune with his daughter’s emotions.
