Willow Shields Opens Up About Her 'Dear Social Media' Photography Series

You might have noticed that Willow Shields‘ Instagram is filled with amazing photography — by HER!

The former Hunger Games actress showcased her artwork at Beautycon LA recently and has an ongoing project called “Dear Social Media”.

“This series is incredibly personal,” Willow tells TeenVogue about it. “I’ve experienced a lot of turbulent messages on social media. On one end of the spectrum, somebody tells you that you’re perfect.”

“On the other, somebody tells you to kill yourself.”

And that’s what inspired her to combat the hate and high praise with something real.

“The whole concept for this series stemmed from my own experiences with social media, and noticing the other women struggling,” Willow adds. “My goal was to have each woman write her own letter to social media to express herself in a space where they felt like they could without judgment.”

She continues, “I wanted them to say everything they’ve been wanting to say, to everyone on social media, for years now.”

“It’s really important that we make light of the issues women face on social media: not just by recognizing it, but by transforming it into an important, interesting issue. My goal is to do this through art.”
