Selena Gomez & Francia Raisa's Moms Both Speak Out About Their Kidney Transplant

Last week, Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa made headlines around the world after it was revealed that Francia donated her kidney to Selena.

Now, both of their moms, Mandy Teefey and Virginia Almendarez, are speaking out about how proud they are of their daughters and how this changed everything.

Speaking with Al Rojo Vivo, Virginia shared that, “They’ve been friends for many years. They’re like sisters. I love her (Selena) a lot, too. She loves me a lot. She says I’m her mom. I’m very proud of both of them.”

Some rumors swirling around online were that Francia did it for the money, but that’s hardly the case at all. She did it for friendship.

“Not even a single penny,” Francia’s mom says. “Some people are treating this as if there was money involved…Francia did it for friendship, for her love for Selena, and because they care a lot for each other. She didn’t receive any benefit from this, only the benefit of Selena having a better life.”

Mandy took to social media over the weekend, sharing a sweet message for Francia and what she was going through as a mom.

“This picture is one of the most breathtaking images that will live with me forever,” Mandy wrote on Instagram. “For all those moments of not knowing if we were going up or going down, I can always come back to this picture and know we can always make it back up.”

She adds, “As a mother I was helpless, scared and all I could do was pray for both of them, Francia’s beautiful family. I am pretty sure I am banned from that hospital. Mama Bear was in high gear. Selena gained a kidney, I was able to keep my little girl, but I also gained another daughter…”

“Thank you to everyone who was there for Sel, Francia and our families. We survived from all the love, prayers and God.”
