Thomas Doherty Auditioned For 'Descendants 2' With His Scottish Accent

One of the most charming things about Thomas Doherty is his accent, can we all agree on that?

The Scottish-born actor chose to use his real accent for his Descendants 2 audition, instead of the American one that was put on the notice.

“It was a global audition with people from all over the world, including many Americans, so I decided to do something different,” he admits in a new interview with the Scottish Daily Record. “I knew Kenny Ortega was directing it and wanted to get his attention one way or another.”

And it worked, too!

“A day later, I got a call from California and it was Kenny,” Thomas adds. “He said that he had loved the performance and wanted to meet me. I thought the Scottish accent would be cutting, raw and almost aggressive, especially compared to an American accent. I also thought it would be a good choice for the character, as Hook’s son.”

Thomas also opens up about working on the movie, where he met his girlfriend, Dove Cameron.

“It’s definitely up there with one of the best experiences I’ve had,” he says. “I get to play a dancing, rapping pirate. I had so much fun. I got to be manic, crazy, angry, then I got to be happy, charming, sexy and all inbetween. It was brilliant.”

He, along with many other Descendants 2 stars are hoping for another one as well.

“Working with Kenny and being directed by him was an incredible experience and hopefully I’ll get to work with him again if there’s a third.”

Descendants 2 will premiere this Friday, on Disney Channel in Scotland.
