Netflix's 'The Kissing Booth' Was Written by a 15-Year-Old Girl

Did you know Netflix’s The Kissing Booth was written by a teenager?

The new movie, starring Carson White, Jacob Elordi, Joey King, and Joel Courtney, is based on the young adult novel of the same name, which was penned by Beth Reekles when she was just 15 years old.

Beth, now 22, from Newport, south Wales, secured a publishing deal at age 17 and wrote two more books while studying for her physics degree.

“I wasn’t hugely involved in the production process,” she told the Daily Mail, “but I did get to go out to set for a week last year while filming was going on, which was completely surreal.”

“It was magical to see my book and my characters coming to life,” Beth continued. “I used to get a lot of comments from readers online when I first shared the story on [online literary forum] Wattpad, saying that the book would be great as a movie – but I never thought it would happen! I loved every second of being on set, meeting the cast, and seeing scenes play out.”

“I watched it with my parents, younger sister, aunt, uncle and granddad,” she added. “Happy is an understatement. I was thrilled with how it turned out. The screenwriters spoke to me and knew which parts were really important to me. Even my granddad was saying how much the kids will love it. When we watched it my Dad kept pointing people out saying, ‘We met him.’”

So cool! You can catch The Kissing Both on the streaming service now.
