Amandla Stenberg Joins 'Dear Evan Hansen' Movie, Will Sing New Original Song

Amandla Stenberg will join the cast of the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie adaptation!

It was just announced that the 21-year-old actress is set to play Alana Beck, in an expanded role for the film version, Variety reports.

Amandla will also get to sing a new original song, which she is co-writing alongside the Broadway musical’s original songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Alana is a high school senior whose cheery façade and social-media savvy mask a deeper loneliness and isolation, and whose response to the death of a classmate ignites a movement.

Dear Evan Hansen follows a high schooler with social anxiety who gets caught up in a lie after the family of a classmate who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.

Jordan Fisher was starring in the title role of Evan Hansen on Broadway just before the pandemic shut down the Great White Way.

Ben Platt will reprise the role of Evan for the film, which he originated on Broadway. Kaitlyn Dever is also in talks to join the cast as well!
