'Shadow & Bone' Star Jessie Mei Li Says She Doesn't Want to Be Famous

Jessie Mei Li is about to be a huge star!

The actress will be starring as Alina Starkov in the highly anticipated series Shadow and Bone on Netflix.

The show is an adaptation of the Grishaverse novels and finds us in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha.

In a new interview, the actress expressed that she doesn’t really want to be a celebrity, though playing a character who becomes famous has helped her accept the fact that she is about to be famous herself.

“I don’t want to be famous. I don’t want to be a celebrity,” she told THR. “Whatever people say about me on the internet, good or bad, you’ve got to take it with a pinch of salt and think, ‘This is their interpretation of who I am.’”

Shadow and Bone will hit Netflix at midnight on Friday (April 23). Check out the trailer here!
