Sky is having a huge month – she JUST turned 13 on July 7th, then won the X Games women’s skateboarding park gold medal, and now an Olympic bronze!
Ahead of her third run at the Olympics, she even got some encouragement from Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi, who took home gold.
“She told me: ‘You got it, Sky. We know you’re gonna make it.’ That really made me feel better,” Sky told reporters, via CNN.
Japan’s Kokona Hiraki, who is just about to turn 13, became the youngest Olympic medalist since 1936 when she picked up silver. This is also the first time that skateboarding is an Olympic sport, with all three of the young athletes being of Japanese descent. If you didn’t know, Sky, who was born in Japan, is British and Japanese.
The morning of the event, Sky took to Instagram to share her excitement for the day.
“Let’s Go Tokyo!!! @olympics @teamgb,” she wrote. “Today I’m excited to show the world how beautiful and creative Skateboarding really is.✨🛹 I’m excited for people to see how much FUN it is.💯 And I get to do this with my best friends. ❤️❤️✨💯 I hope there’s some littles girls out there watching this and thinking I can do this too 💪 ✨🔥”
