Olivia Rodrigo's Nini Says Goodbye To East High & 'High School Musical' Series

Olivia Rodrigo in the season three finale of HSMTMTS

In the season finale, Nini made a secret appearance to cheer on her friends at Camp Shallow Lake’s performance of Frozen. She actually only interacted with two other characters – Miss Jenn and of course, her BFF Kourtney.

As tradition, Nini brought opening night notes for the cast, and she had a couple of emotional conversations with Miss Jenn and Kourtney.

While talking to Miss Jenn, Nini shared that she had a choice to stay in California, where her and her moms were much happier, and writing songs was coming very easier to her. One of her moms suggested that she should finish senior year at East High.

Nini felt conflicted and didn’t want to leave Miss Jenn or the senior year musical, but Miss Jenn told her that the musical will be fine without her and she should do what truly makes her happiest. They then decided that after the musical, if Nini was at the fire pit, then Miss Jenn would know she was deciding to stay at East High for senior year, and if not, that meant she was leaving.

Miss Jenn excitedly went to go meet Nini at the fire pit after the musical, but was only met with a note left on the bench. “Miss Jenn, I didn’t want to say goodbye because goodbye means it’s over. So I just want to say, ‘Thank you,’” the note reads.

“After tonight’s performance, it’s clear there is already so much talent at East, so I’m gonna go west. Here’s to the start of something new. Forever your Wildcat,” she concluded. We then cut to Nini driving away while listening to her season one duet with Kourtney, “Born to Be Brave.”

HSMTMTS creator Tim Federle recently opened up about Nini’s future on the show.
