Raven Symone Opens Up About Why She Didn't Want Raven to be Gay on 'Raven's Home'

Raven Symone is opening up about her Raven’s Home character Raven Baxter.

In a new interview with them, the star and executive producer of the Disney Channel series revealed why she turned down the network’s offer to make her character gay.

The reboot series sees her That’s So Raven character all grown up with two kids, divorced and as a single mom in Chicago. In the latest season, she moved back home to San Francisco after her father suffered a heart attack.

While reflecting on her iconic Disney roles, taking a break from the industry, not wanting to come out and more, she dished on Disney offering to make Raven Baxter gay.

“I think Disney wanted her to be queer in the beginning, and I just didn’t feel comfortable doing that,” Raven told them. “They were like, ‘Do you want Raven to be gay?’ I said, ‘Why?’ ‘Because you are.’ I said bad, bad reason. That’s a bad reason.”

She then explained why she thought that was a bad reason and why it didn’t make sense.

“No, Raven Baxter never exhibited any type of sexual identity situation in the priors. I’m not being myself on this show, I’m being a character. Raven Baxter’s not gay,” she added. “No matter what the first four seasons looked like with me and Chelsea sleeping in the same room and us raising a family together.”

She also dished on being queer while making The Cheetah Girls and being a queer role model for the newer generation. Check out the video right here!
