Miley Cyrus' New Song 'Flowers' Mirrors Bruno Mars Song Ex Liam Hemsworth Reportedly Dedicated to Her

If Miley Cyrus‘ new song “Flowers” sounded familiar to you, there’s a couple of reasons why!

The most obvious that people have picked up on is the Bruno Mars “When I Was Your Man” reference.

The chorus for “Flowers” mirrors the chorus in the Bruno song, which her ex Liam Hemsworth reportedly dedicated to her at one point.

Find out more inside…

In Bruno Mars‘ “When I Was Your Man,” which was released in 2012, he sings, “I should have bought you flowers / And held your hand / Shoulda gave you all my hours / When I had the chance / Take you to every party / ‘Cause all you wanted to do was dance.”

In “Flowers,” Miley sings, “I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand / Talk to myself for hours / Say things you didn’t understand / I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my hand.”

“Flowers” actually features an interpolation of “When I Was Your Man,” which refers to when a melody or part of a melody from a previously recorded song is used as a re-recording instead of sampling it.

It also interpolates “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.

If you missed it, find out all the lyrics that seemingly allude that the song is about Liam.

“Flowers” is the first single off Miley‘s new album Endless Summer Vacation.
