Senator Schumer Calls on FDA to Investigate Fan Favorite Prime Energy Drink From KSI & Logan Paul

Politicians are getting worried about the effects of Prime Energy Drink.

As most may know, Prime was launched in 2022 by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, and was “developed to fill the void where great taste meets function,” “with bold, thirst-quenching flavors to help you refresh, replenish, and refuel, PRIME is the perfect boost for any endeavor.”

The popular beverage brand, which sells two options – the energy drink and the Hydration sports drink (similarly to Gatorade) – is loved by many, and has a wide range of fans that includes a lot of teens and tweens.

This fact has led lawmakers, particularly Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (pictured here), to question the effect and marketing that it is having on the younger demographic and are asking that it be investigated.

Schumer has called on the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to investigate the beverage, alleging that unclear marketing between the energy drink and their other PRIME Hydration causes confusion with parents thinking they’re just buying the Hydration and not the high caffeine energy drink.

It is notable that the energy drinks come in a labeled can, while the Hydration sports drink comes in a plastic bottle. On the can for the energy drink, there’s also a consumption warning, stating that it is “not recommended for children under 18 years of age.”

“One of the summer’s hottest status symbols for kids is not an outfit, or a toy − it’s a beverage,” Senator Schumer said in a letter to the FDA, via AP. “But buyers and parents beware because it’s a serious health concern for the kids it so feverishly targets.”

The Prime energy drinks may be vegan and have zero sugar, but the amount of caffeine in one 12oz can is 200 milligrams, which is the equivalent of six cans of Coca Cola, or almost two cans of Red Bull.

“A simple search on social media for Prime will generate an eye-popping amount of sponsored content, which is advertising,” Schumer continued in his letter. “This content and the claims made should be investigated, along with the ingredients and the caffeine content in the Prime energy drink.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for the brand shared, “As a brand, our top priority is consumer safety, so we welcome discussions with the FDA or any other organization regarding suggested industry changes they feel are necessary in order to protect consumers.”

Prime has been flying off shelves across the US, and in some parts, is a very hard product to come by.
