Netflix Passes On Picking Up 'Girl Meets World' For More Seasons

Excuse us while we wallow in our sorrows again — Netflix has passed on picking up Girl Meets World for more episodes.

Via Yahoo and TheWrap, the streaming service has opted not to take over the show, which will end its’ run on Disney Channel tomorrow.

“We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms,” creator Michael Jacobs had said earlier in the month about the show being continued.

“I don’t think ‘Girl should have been canceled. We signed to do four seasons. I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That’s the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end.”

Are you ready for the Girl Meets World series finale this week? We’re not…

JJJ is still trying to cope with the idea of it all ending. There’s still hope the show will get picked up by a different network, but nothing’s been announced yet.

The show’s amazing writers just sent out a new tease about the final episode, titled “Girl Meets Goodbye.”

“Friday: Feeny, Shawn, Alan, Amy, Turner, Harley, Minkus, both Morgans, both Josh’s, Eric gets hit by a subway, plus we make a decision,” they tweeted.

That decision, of course, is referring to the Matthews family possibly moving to London. It sounds like there will be a ton of cameos too!

The GMW finale will air Friday, January 20 @ 6PM on Disney Channel.

Nope, NOT EVEN remotely ready for the series finale of Girl Meets World — especially after this promo!

The visual centers on Riley and Maya’s friendship in the first half, before begging a more serious question over Topanga’s legal future — her practice just put her in charge of the entire London office.

We all know what that would do to us if Riley was in London and everyone else back in New York — it would rip our hearts out!

“Girl Meets Goodbye” will air next week, Friday, January 21st @ 6PM ET/PT on Disney Channel.

'Girl Meets World' Creator Michael Jacobs Agrees With The Fans - GMW Shouldn't Have Been Cancelled

'Girl Meets World' Creator Michael Jacobs Agrees With The Fans - GMW Shouldn't Have Been Cancelled

Girl Meets World creator Michael Jacobs is opening up more about the fans and the possibility of the show going elsewhere to continue on.

In a new interview with TheWrap, he opens up about the possibility of continuing the show, why it was cancelled on Disney Channel and more.

“I don’t think ‘Girl’ should have been canceled,” he shared. “We signed to do four seasons. I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That’s the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end.”

Check out more excerpts from Mr. Jacobs‘ interview:

On which cast members would follow: “I believe everyone will be on board. But I have to say, there are practicalities to this. When something is canceled, that basically releases everyone to make their own decisions. But I think the experience of this particular show was such a good experience for this cast and this crew that I can’t speak for everyone but I think the inclination would be to stay together if we could.”

On the stories that were explored on Disney Channel: “We were pushing down all kinds of walls at Disney, I don’t think they expected or had really ever seen we would have kept going. But it becomes problematic because I think the mandate of that network is younger kids. If you examine what happened, it’s okay, no harm, no foul, we simply outgrew that venue. That’s why I perceive there might be interest somewhere else, because of the types of stories we could tell.”
