Olympic champion Gus Kenworthy came out to the world as gay in October of 2015 in a powerful interview in which he spoke about the difficulty in pretending to be something he wasn’t.
In a surprising and funny new podcast interview, Gus reveals that he actually once made out with Miley Cyrus before coming out publicly.
Gus recounted the experience on the podcast Allegedly, explaining that when he was asked at the Olympics who his celebrity crush was, he didn’t know whether to say a man, so he panicked and said Miley. In a surprising twist, Miley tweeted back at him, began following him, and began messaging him, so the two became friends.
“We never slept together or anything but we had a make-out!” he remembers, “Yeah we had a make-out. It was great. She was on tour with the Bangerz tour in Denver and she was like. ‘You should come!’ So I went with a bunch of my friends and we all partied with her afterwards and it was really cool. She’s very very sweet.”
It turns out, the pair are still fast friends.
“We’re friends and she’s like a gay icon,” he continued, laughing.

Jordan Fisher suits up alongside Chloe Kim at the 2016 ESPY Awards on Wednesday (July 13) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Chloe Kim steps out for Cooper & GBK’s 2016 Pre-ESPY Celebrity Lounge & Poker Tournament held at The Line Hotel on Tuesday night (July 12) in Los Angeles.
The 16-year-old snowboarder was joined by skier Gus Kenworthy for the event, just ahead of the BODY At The ESPYs pre-party held at Avalon Hollywood that same night.

Gus Kenworthy, the Olympic freeskiing champ who made headlines at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, has come out as gay.
The 24-year-old athlete, who rescued those pups from Sochi and brought them back to America, has opened up with ESPN mag about coming out to his family and friends.
“I never got to be proud of what I did in Sochi because I felt so horrible about what I didn’t do,” Gus shared about missing out on the silver medal. “I didn’t want to come out as the silver medalist from Sochi. I wanted to come out as the best freeskier in the world.”
He continued, “In skiing, there’s such an alpha male thing about pulling the hottest chicks. I know hooking up with hot girls doesn’t sound like the worst thing in the world. But I literally would sleep with a girl and then cry about it afterward. I’m like, ‘What am I doing? ?I don’t know what I’m doing.’”
“I don’t want to make skiing less cool,” Gus added. I hear the snowboarders call us ‘skier fags.’ And it’s frustrating because I’m literally going to live up to that stereotype.”
