Auli’i Cravalho is pretty much having the time of her life on the Moana press tour.
Right now the Hawaiian actress, who voices the newest Disney Princess, is in Samoa with the filmmakers of the movie.
“#Moana premiere last night here in Apia, Samoa!” she captioned with one pic from the premiere event. “Mahalo Samoa for such a warm and wonderful welcome!”
Later, Auli’i took over her Instagram Stories to share more of her adventure — including pics of her steering a boat, and diving into the To-Sua Ocean Trench!
You can check out all the pics below…run, don’t walk to see Moana, in theaters now!
Finally – the full video for Moana‘s hit song “How Far I’ll Go” has been released by Disney!
The song is definitely one of the biggest highlights of the film – it’s performed by the movie’s star Auli’i Cravalho and was written by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The song was just nominated for a Golden Globe this morning in the Best Original Song, Motion Picture category! Moana is also nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Animated category. Congrats! See the full list of nominees if you missed it.
Who else can’t stop obsessing over Disney’s Moana?!
If you answered yes, which you should have, then you definitely need to take a listen to “Unstoppable“!
The track, written and sung by Lin-Manuel Miranda, didn’t make it into the movie, but it did however make it onto the deluxe version of the soundtrack.
Moana has made a splash at the box office this weekend, beating out Frozen‘s Thanksgiving Eve ticket sales.
The film showcases Disney’s first Polynesian princess, Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) – and she can totally kick butt!
“We made [Moana's] legs fuller and her hips are fuller to make her capable of these action stunts that we wanted to do, where she can dive off cliffs and those sort of things,” one of the movie’s directors, John Musker, told Huffington Post, adding that the flick is “pushing [Moana] into new territory.”
With all the “new territory” explored in creating this movie, John also discussed the possibility of featuring Disney’s first LGBTQ princess!
“It seems like the possibilities are pretty open at this point,” John added. “It would be driven by a director or a directorial team that really wanted to push that and if [Disney Animation's Chief Creative Officer] John Lasseter liked the idea, but I would say we haven’t ever really [had] restrictions placed on what we’ve done.”
Moana is right on track to win Thanksgiving weekend at the box office!
The film, starring the voice talents of Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, brought in $21.8 million on Friday. Combined with Thanksgiving Day and the night before, this puts the flick on track for an $80 million-plus debut.
This makes Disney’s second best Thanksgiving opener!
When the long weekend is over, Moana will join the top 10 ranks and Disney leads that list with NINE films!
