If you’re like us, you were completely wowed by Auli’i Cravalho‘s dress at the premiere of Moana this week.
The voice of the title character, Auli’i looked so gorgeous in the gown from New Zealand designer Kiri Nathan — and even though it’s pretty and we all desperately want one in our closets — there’s much more meaning behind it.
Designer Kiri paid homage to Maori culture and tradition, incorporating Flower designs, and Kona patterns.
The dress, which mimics an ocean wave, also included Raranga weaving and Whakairo carving, and Pounamu jewelry, the most precious stone to the Maori.
Check out the fashion video below to appreciate this gorgeous gown and it’s full meaning!

It’s probably safe to say that Disney’s upcoming movie, Moana, is going to be the best and JJJ will be obsessed with it for years.
So, it’s also safe to say that we expect all merchandise moving forward, will be as cool as the Moana doll is right now. We mean, the box the doll comes in — turns into the boat in the film!
Pretty sure JJJ will be ordering 10, so we can have at least one in mint condition and the other nine to have an entire fleet of Moana’s.
The box, made with 70% recycled paper and printed with vegetable-based inks, it was designed without tape or glue; allowing the pieces to separate easily. There are even directions coming with the doll, so out of the nine that JJJ orders, you better believe that at least five will be iffy looking until we get it right.
Check out the video below and go see Moana in theaters on November 23rd.
