A video from 2019 recently resurfaced of the 15-year-old Stranger Things actor singing along to “Freaky Friday” by Lil Dicky and Chris Brown.
Noah says that in the video it appears he was saying the n-word, but he actually replaced it with “neighbor.”
“hi guys. recently a video from last summer has gotten out of me dancing and singing a song while singing the word ‘neighbor’ over the n word,” Noah said in a statement shared to his Instagram story.
“i would truly never say the n word and i’m not the type of person. i genuinely have never used that word in my life. using the word ‘neighbor’ in that song was just something my camp friends and i did,” he continued. “i hope you all understand i could never even think about doing that. my friends also would never post a video, or support me, if i was saying that slur without hesitation.”
“i apologize for using a replacement word. it is not my place to use one and i should of kept my mouth shut. i understand why it is found offensive and i am so sorry,” Noah concluded.
The 16-year-old TikTok star recently talked about how they became friends.
“Noah and I had just been friends on Snapchat, and we were just mutuals because we both are around the same age in this world of being in some sort of spotlight,” she told Variety.
“I think his team reached out to mine and were like, ‘Hey, we should collab.’ And I was like, ‘That’s so cool,’” she continued. “He actually came to my home dance studio because we live near each other, and we just shot two YouTube videos. He’s so sweet. He’s a very, very, kindhearted person. He taught me how to act. I taught him about a dance. It was so much fun.”
