It may only be January, but it’s never too early to start thinking about prom.
Riverdale star Camila Mendes recently teamed up with JCPenney to style the 2018 campaign and during the shoot, revealed what her own prom dress looked like.
She also opened up about having a budget to deal with — something that her fans can definitely relate to.
Who actually wants to pay a lot of money for one dress that you’re only going to wear once?
“It’s funny I spent three hours at a department store and wasn’t finding anything; these dresses were really expensive and I didn’t find anything I liked for the price I would pay, so I ended up not getting anything,” Camila remembers about her search for the perfect dress. “I was with my mom and we were so frustrated.”
Instead of staying there, she thought outside the box — and went vintage shopping.
She continues, “Then the next weekend I went out with my friends and we were at a thrift store and I came across this really cute, black, kind of old-Hollywood vintage dress and it was so cheap (definitely under $100; I think it was honestly $50 or something). And I put it on and it fit me like a glove.”
Camila adds that her perfect dress was “just a simple black dress with an open back and it had fake diamonds outlining the back.”
“It was really glamorous and I had my hair all old Hollywood-like and I was like, Oh my God. I kind of cheated prom because I went to a thrift store and found my dream dress.”

Drake definitely made his cousin’s high school prom an evening she will never, ever forget!
The 30-year-old “Passionfruit” singer reportedly footed the bill for his cousin, Jalaah Moore and her date’s, matching glittery outfits, a Rolls-Royce and a 400-person after party at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Incredible!
Drake even flew in to Memphis, Tennessee, and hung with them all night.
“Best day ever,” Jalaah captioned her pick.

One Jessie fan actually asked Kevin Chamberlin, who played butler Bertram, to her prom and got some major help from his co-star Peyton List.
When the fan asked Kevin to her prom, she asked just how many RT’s on social she would need to make it happen and he gave them to her — 100,000 RTs and 500,000 likes — AND IT HAPPENED!
Right now, the Twitter post has over 183,000 RTs and 543,000 likes!
“come through @kevinchamberlin,” Peyton shared on her Twitter, with other fans saying the prom date probably wouldn’t happen — but don’t doubt Kevin.
“Should I wear a classic black tie tux or go retro with top hat and tails?” “I should probably coordinate with you. What color is your dress?” were two of the questions Kevin asked his prom date.
Emma Stone would be just about every high school boy’s dream date — and for one 17-year-old prom-goer, he almost made his dreams a reality.
Jacob Staudenmaier invited the La La Land actress to his prom, which just happened to be taking place in her hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona, and she actually responded!
Jacob created a La La Land-inspired video, rewriting the lyrics to “Another Day of Sun” and recreating the film’s opening scene in his high school parking lot. As these things do, it went crazy viral.
Emma was super impressed.
“Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received,” Emma wrote. “I can’t tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me. Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.”
Jacob read the message on Good Morning America this morning, and while he didn’t get the date, he did get Emma Stone to tell him he looks like Ryan Gosling — which, in our book, is much, much better.
