The actor, who plays James Olsen on the CW series (Superman’s best friend and Supergirl’s ex-boyfriend), is leaving the show during the first half of season five, Deadline reports.
It is unclear how he will exit the series, but he’s allegedly bidding farewell in order to spend more time on movies and a possible cable show.
“We love Mehcad and we’re sad to see him leave the show as as a series regular, but we’re excited for both Mehcad and James Olsen’s future,” the producers said in a statement. “He’ll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends.”
Actor Jeremy Jordan revealed the exciting news that he will be returning to Supergirl on his Instagram account.
“Turns out Winn didn’t go 1000 years into the future, just to season 5! 😊 So happy to come back and play with my friendsssssss!! @supergirlcw,” he wrote.
In case you forgot, Winn left with Mon-El at the end of season three and Jeremy assured fans that Winn would be back.
According to ET, Winn will appear in three episodes in the upcoming fifth season, after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
Melissa Benoist took to Instagram to share a photo of the new super suit, and she’s now wearing blue pants, instead of a red skirt.
“We’ve been talking about pants since season 1,” she told EW. “Every time a writer from the show has come up, and it’s freezing cold in Vancouver, I’m like, ‘Guys, please can I not wear tights?’ I love [Kara’s old costume]. I haven’t changed it because it so works, and I think it is very Kara. I’ve always felt that — until recently, I’m like, ‘Something’s gotta give.’”
“I just think it’s more adult,” Melissa added. “Part of my goal in this whole series for whenever the show ends, I just want there to be a very clear arc for this character that she evolved as a woman and found her femininity and her adulthood, just a self-discovery.”
A new Supergirl suit with pants was teased in the season four finale. You can see those pics in the gallery!
The 30-year-old actress will make her directorial debut with the 17th episode of Supergirl Season 5, EW reports.
“I’ve been wanting to direct since Season 3, but couldn’t last year because of scheduling conflicts, so [star] David Harewood did it first,” Melissa said. “I just felt really drawn to it for a couple of seasons now, just because you know the show so well, and you get to know the character, and the world, and the tone of the show so well that you can’t help but envision certain scenes in a certain way. I want to play with that.”
Melissa says that making her directorial debut on a huge superhero show like Supergirl is daunting, but she’s been learning from the best.
“These shows are so massive that it’s not like directing any other show on TV, I would imagine, and everyone has said as much to me. I’m literally trying to be a sponge, and I will learn something new every single day I’m shadowing,” she explained. “It’s just a matter of talking to actors, making sure everyone feels creative and collaborative even though we have these massive constraints with budget and special effects. It’s like a chess game, I’ve realized. You move your pawn one way, and then someone knocks your rook down because you can’t do a certain stunt you wanted to do. It’s all about compromising and trying to be as creative as you can within those boundaries, which is a cool challenge.”
