‚ÄúWe do think there‚Äôs a real appetite for the show. It‚Äôs based on a classic book series, and we think it works on cable. It works for binge-watching. It‚Äôs very accessible on all platforms,” Milesshared while speaking with press.
John added, “It‚Äôs not mined out. Plus, this material has real history. Our writer started this in 1976!”

We are SO excited to see Austin Butler as the leading man in the new MTV series The Shannara Chronicles tonight!
The 24-year-old actor was the star of Just Jared Spotlight‘s December 2015 cover story, so let’s take a look at some of the highlights from the interview:
On wearing elf ears for the role: “The elf ears you get really used to. They take about 45 minutes to put them on. So I would get picked up at my apartment at like 3 a.m. because you have to get on set early before the sun has risen. So that was the hard part… It was amazing how well they stuck on because I had to do scenes where I‚Äôm swimming or I‚Äôve just fallen off a horse or I‚Äôm in a lake and the ears stayed on. It‚Äôs amazing what they can do with prosthetics.”
On skills he learned for the show: “I did a lot of sword fighting training out there. And I don‚Äôt get to show it off that much in this season. But I had done Kali as a kid, which is Filipino stick fighting. So I kind of have a background in it and I ended up learning how to do all these cool things. So maybe if we do another season, I‚Äôll get to show those off a little bit more.”
On his recent road trip with girlfriendVanessa Hudgens: “Oh it was amazing! We went from New York to LA. I got to meet so many unique people that I would have never gotten to meet otherwise. And I noticed that when I‚Äôm road tripping, I have the sense that it‚Äôs not about the destination, it‚Äôs about the journey. And I think it‚Äôs symbolic in a way and it teaches so many lessons to me just to carry in life. It‚Äôs just glorious.”
Based on the novel “The Elfstones of Shannara” by Terry Brooks, the series is set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization and follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.
That same day, Austin posted an inspiring message on Instagram.
“This bathroom mirror has a message for you. It’s easy in this day and age of airbrushed magazines and plastic surgery to get the feeling that you are not enough,” Austin wrote. “Some of you may be blessed with the gift of unconditional confidence and self-love (which is so awesome!), but for the rest of us, I just want to say: you are beautiful, exactly how you are, stay true to yourself, and as much as you can, deeply realize that YOU ARE ENOUGH. You’re the only you that will ever walk this earth. So go out there and create, explore, have fun, and make it count. Oh, and…you look great! Happy Tuesday!”
