HSMTMTS' Julia Lester to Make Broadway Debut as 'Into the Woods' Moves to Broadway!
Julia Lester is heading to Broadway!!!
The 22-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star will be making her debut on the Great White Way in a limited run of Into the Woods as Little Red Riding Hood.
“The first things I remember ever wanting in life were an American Girl doll, and a chance to tap my lil toes on a Broadway stage. Dreams do come true !!!!” she shared on Instagram.
Julia, along with several of her cast mates from the recent Encores! 2-week engagement will also be joining the Broadway ensemble.

According to Deadline, also moving to Broadway with the production are Sara Bareilles as the Baker’s Wife and Gavin Creel (pictured here in the gallery with Julia) as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince. Taking over the role of the Baker is Brian D’Arcy James and Tony winner Patina Miller will take over as the Witch.
Hamilton‘s Phillipa Soo and Joshua Henry are joining the cast too, as Cinderella and Rapunzel’s Prince, respectively.
Reprising their roles from the New York City production also include Ta’Nika Gibson as Lucinda, Annie Golden as Cinderella’s Mother/Grandmother/Giant’s Wife, Albert Guerzon as Cinderella’s Father, Brooke Ishibashi as Florinda, Kennedy Kanagawa as Milky White, David Patrick Kelly as the Narrator/Mysterious Man, Cole Thompson as Jack, and David Turner as the Steward, plus Jason Forbach, Mary Kate Moore and Cameron Johnson. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Into the Woods will debut at the St James Theatre, previously home to Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical, starting June 28th for a limited eight-week engagement. Tickets can be purchased at IntoTheWoodsBWay.com!
This is the first time in 20 years that Into the Woods has been on Broadway, since the 2002 revival starring Vanessa Williams, Laura Benanti and more.
The New York City Center limited run received rave reviews, with many also praising Julia‘s performance. There were even critics saying she should be nominated for several awards!!
After revealing the Broadway news on her Instagram, Julia received several congratulatory messages from her HSMTMTS co-stars, including Dara Renee, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St Cyr, and Liamani Segura, as well as from Lindsay Pearce, who recently just finished a run in Wicked on Broadway as Elphaba!
