Supernatural's Richard Speight Jr Joins 'The Winchesters' In Same Role

Richard Speight Jr is the latest Supernatural star going back in time for the prequel series The Winchesters!

The actor, who played Gabriel/The Trickster/Loki over several episodes of the CW series, will be back as Loki, according to TV Insider.

His character is the Norse demigod and is described as being “as dangerous as he is wily” and still sports the “veneer of whimsy to mask his malevolence, Loki thrives on crooked games and sowing chaos — and Hunters are one of his favorite playthings.”

Richard’s an old friend of mine, so it was a question of when, not if,” showrunner Robbie Thompson, who also worked on Supernatural, shared.

“I think it was in New Orleans actually when we were shooting Episode 2, so I wasn’t in the writer’s room, obviously,” he added. “But I was reading their notes and was like, ‘Hey, wait a minute….and then I just got really, really excited because it felt like [they’d come up with] an opportunity for us to welcome a friend that we’ve seen before, but maybe not in a way that folks are, are expected.”

Back at New York Comic Con earlier this month, it was revealed that Richard would direct some upcoming episodes of the show, but his casting was kept mum until now.

Richard will appear in episode eight.

The Winchesters airs weekly at 8pm ET/PT on Tuesday nights on The CW.

Earlier this year, Richard and Rob Benedict started a Supernatural re-watch podcast called Supernatural Then and Now, where they are often joined by cast and crew, and spill secrets and stories about episodes of the show.
