Selena Gomez Talks Feeling Free of Disney Past, Teases 'Very Pop' New Music

Selena Gomez is feeling like she has overcome being defined by her Disney past.

While the 30-year-old entertainer currently works with the company on her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, she feels free of her Disney Channel roots.

“I definitely feel free of it. Sometimes I get triggered. It’s not that I’m ashamed of my past, it’s just that I’ve worked so hard to find my own way. I don’t want to be who I was. I want to be who I am,” Selena shared with Vanity Fair.

The multi-hyphenate also opened up about her upcoming music, and what kind of music she wants to make.

See what she dished inside…

“If I had my way, I would probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile,” Selena shared. “The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through. It’s really powerful, strong, very pop. The theme generally is freedom—freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”

Selena‘s last music release was her song “My Mind & Me” for her documentary of the same name. See what she said about new music then!
