Never Have I Ever's Maitreyi Ramakrishnan & Her Castmates Talk Final Season, Tease What's to Come

The cast of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever is still coming to terms with the end of the series.

The show will conclude with its forthcoming fourth season, which premieres in June on the streaming platform.

Co-stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Jaren Lewison and Darren Barnet opened up about the final days of filming and what’s to come in a new interview. Co-creator Lang Fisher also had some big teases about what each character will deal with when the show arrives.

Maitreyi told Netflix that she couldn’t totally process that they had wrapped the show. She explained that she “woke up panicking that I was late for work” the day after they had finished. “And then I had the biggest deflation of like, ‘Right, never mind.’”

Darren agreed, explaining that the change “still hasn’t hit me yet.”

He spilled on the final day of filming, revealing that they watched a blooper reel that he said “really messed me up.”

“I will tell you the one moment that really, really got me though, because I’m not too good in moments like that, where it’s supposed to be emotional. I, for some reason, can’t get emotional,” he added. “But I was walking through the hallway of Sherman Oaks High and they were tearing down the set. It was empty. Classrooms are empty. I was with Ben Norris, [who plays] Trent, and we were just sitting there like, ‘Wow.’ We walked back to the trailers and we both cried and hugged each other. We both did not expect to get emotional. We were just sobbing, crying. It was wild.”

What’s to come in the forthcoming season? According to Lang, there’s some drama for the characters.

“I think everything gets kind of tumbled upside down when they become seniors and Paxton’s off [at college],” she teased. “The structure you’ve seen for the first three seasons shifts and so therefore the love triangle kind of can get reignited again.”

College choices will also play a role: “[Devi] and Ben are both laser-focused on these elite schools that they want to go to, that they’ve been these annoying A students for so long. There’s a lot of figuring out what those things mean in terms of who they are, and what their worth is in [relation] to what college they get into.”

Maitreyi weighed in on the conclusion, revealing that she was very happy with the journey.

“I think all of my hopes and dreams that I would want for good old Devi have come true,” she gushed. “I feel like if I said what I would want, I would just be telling you what happened.”
