Disney to Close 'Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser' & Cancels Lake Nona Plans

Walt Disney World has made a big announcement about it’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive stay experience – it’s closing this fall!

The two-night stay opened in 2022 and has taken many fans on a voyage to a galaxy far, far away since.

If you didn’t know, the immersive stay at the Florida resort put fans in the land of Batuu and was an experience featuring “live immersive theater, part themed environment, part culinary extravaganza, part real-life role-playing game—and yet so much more.”

However, that is coming to an end this fall.

In a statement, Disney shared, “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

The two-night immersive stay did not come cheap, as it was priced starting at $4,800 for two guests, and went up to just under $6k for four guests sharing a cabin.

The final voyage will take place September 28-30, and those who booked for on or after the 30th, will be contacted to discuss options and to modify plans.

“We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months. Thank you to our Guests and fans for making this experience so special,” Disney said, via Deadline.

In addition, Disney’s planned Lake Nona campus has been canceled.

The Mouse House was moving 2,000 cast members to Florida in a move a few years ago and they were planning to build a massive office complex, that was priced at around $1 billion. However, that was delayed to 2026 (even though some had already made the move). Now, they are pulling the plug on these plans, and those that already moved to Florida will have the option to move back to California.

The proposed Lake Nona project would have brought thousands of jobs to the state.

Disney employees were notified of the update in a memo from Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

“Given the considerable changes that have occurred since the announcement of this project, including new leadership and changing business conditions, we have decided not to move forward with construction of the campus,” he wrote. “This was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it is the right one. As a result, we will no longer be asking our employees to relocate. For those who have already moved, we will talk to you individually about your situation, including the possibility of moving you back.”

This is just the latest thing to come about amid Disney’s feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Just a few weeks ago, Disney filed lawsuit against Ron and the new board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

Ron‘s press office released the statement on Lake Nona, “Disney announced the possibility of a Lake Nona campus nearly two years ago. Nothing ever came of the project, and the state was unsure whether it would come to fruition. Given the company’s financial straits, falling market cap, and declining stock price, it is unsurprising that they would restructure their business operations and cancel unsuccessful ventures.”
