SAG-AFTRA Strike Could Be Affecting Your Favorite Influencers Too - Here's How!

The actors guild, SAG-AFTRA, is officially going on strike, starting at midnight on Friday (July 14)!

This coincides with the ongoing writer’s strike, and this is also the first time that both writers and actors are on strike at the same time since 1960.

While this puts a stop to a lot of upcoming events and promotions of film and television work by actors, this very well may be affecting a lot of your favorite influencers as well.

While the SAG-AFTRA strike mainly applies to those part of the union, it also can apply to those who are wishing to support, and/or those taking professional jobs during the strike.

UnderTheDeskNews on TikTok breaks it down, writing, “If you are a non union performer – and take a professional job AFTER TODAY, then yes that’s scab behavior bc you’re crossing the picket line.”

“Scab behavior” is referred when someone continues to work when unions are on strike.

So, what does this mean for actors, performers and influencers? Well, there is quite a list of things that they CANNOT do during the strike.

This includes: No on camera work, including acting, singing, dancing, performing stunts, puppeteering, stand-in work, interviews and auditions and more.

It also means no promotional photoshoots, no red carpets, no conventions, no fan expos, no promotional tours, no podcast appearances and no promoting on social media.

They can, of course, still use social media, but ONLY for personal use and cannot use it to promote their work.

While actors won’t be present promoting their projects, if an influencer goes to a premiere, or promotes a film or television project, this would be considered scab behavior.
