Rachel Zegler Puts Her Own Spin on Jennifer Lawrence's 'Hunger Games' Song 'The Hanging Tree'

Rachel Zegler is the latest star from the Hunger Games franchise to perform “The Hanging Tree.”

If you forgot, Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss Everdeen in the original movies, sang the somber song in 2014′s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Ahead of the release of prequel movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Rachel has released a cover.

There’s a reason that the song is being revisited. In the new movie, Rachel‘s character Lucy Gray Baird is the first person to sing “The Hanging Tree” generations before Katniss learned it.

Rachel is no stranger to musical projects after starring in the film adaptation of West Side Story. On the other hand, Jennifer was “horrified to sing,” according to director Francis Lawrence.

Speaking of Francis, he recently revealed something that he learned from directing the original movies that informed his decision-making process for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
