Florence Pugh Opens Up About Playing Amy March in 'Little Women'
Florence Pugh rocks some cool black, brown and white boots while arriving at the Indie Contenders Roundtable during the 2019 AFI Fest at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Sunday afternoon (November 17) in Hollywood.
The 23-year-old actress was joined by Alfre Woodard, Jimmie Fails, Jon Hamm, Cynthia Erivo, Awkwafina, Kerry Washington, and Sterling K. Brown for the conversation series.
Speaking with Beanie Feldstein for a Variety feature later on, Florence opened up about giving a new life to Amy March in Little Women.
“Greta [Gerwig, director] said straight up, ‘Amy’s going to be more than just what she is in the books in this, because I feel like she hasn’t had her voice.’ She is so easily and quickly the bratty sister.”
Florence continues, “It’s so easy to read Jo as being this hero, and everybody wants to be Jo. But I think there’s also something being said for Amy, for a girl that knows, at that time, the wisest thing to do is to richly marry, which is so odd for us, for women now, to go, ‘Yeah, you go! You marry that rich man!’”
Little Women will open on Christmas Day, December 25th.
