Javicia Leslie Shares First Look In New 'Batwoman' Suit - See the Pics!

Javicia Leslie as Batwoman is SO COOL!!

The 33-year-old actress stars as Ryan Wilder/the new Batwoman in the upcoming second season of the The CW series.

On Monday (October 26), Javicia shared the first look images of her in the new Batsuit.

“Blackwoman, I mean Batwoman is here! 🦇,” she captioned the images on Instagram.

The new suit was conceptualized by Batwoman costume designer Maya Mani and created by Ocean Drive Leather. Her wig was created by Janice Workman and makeup styled by Cory Roberts.

“I was asked by [showrunner] Caroline Dries to design a Batsuit that was unique to the character of Ryan Wilder; as she is a highly skilled fighter, encapsulating her raw, athletic, and passionate nature was imperative” Maya Mani said in a statement.

“As Batwoman, Javicia Leslie not only brings a fresh perspective, but physical strength to the role,” she continued. “It was important for the new suit to define Javicia’s commanding presence while showcasing her athleticism and allowing her the freedom to express the physical nature of Batwoman, all while looking ultra-cool in the process!”

“I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman — it’s her style, her swag, and her moment!” Javicia said. “It was an honor to be able to collaborate with Caroline and Maya. I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”

Ruby Rose Says Leaving 'Batwoman' Seemed 'Like The Right Thing To Do'

Ruby Rose Says Leaving 'Batwoman' Seemed 'Like The Right Thing To Do'

Ruby Rose is speaking out about the decision to part ways with Batwoman.

The 34-year-old actress shocked fans when she announced the news back in May, and she’s now opening up about it.

“I think what played a bigger part [in the decision], we got shut down early. We didn’t get to finish the first season, which is such a shame, especially for a first season show,” Ruby said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “Um, and then we went into lockdown with COVID and thinking of in quarantine and locked down, there was a lot of thought and reflection and kind of everyone did it.”

“You know, we all kind of thought about where we’re at and, and, and so did, uh, Warner Brothers and Greg [Berlanti], and we were discussing the show and we had a conversation and, you know, I had a great time on Batwoman,” she continued. “I am so proud of what we achieved. We set out to achieve something pretty significant, you know, the first ever live action Batwoman and the first ever, you know, out gay superhero, her and Kate Kane. And I love that character and the whole experience, but we did have a discussion and we sort of mutually agreed that probably what was best for the show, um, at the time was they go in a different direction and I go in a different direction. It was tough cause it was sad cause we will love each other, but also it made sense for so many different reasons.”

Ruby add that she’s looking forward to season two and she still keeps in touch with the cast.

“And you know, I think at the end of the day, like, oh, I’m really excited to watch season two. I think the show is great,” she said. “I love the cast. I’m still in contact with everyone, but it was, it was a decision that we, we talked about, we discussed, we slept on. Um, but at the time with all that reflection, it just seemed like the right thing to do.”

The new Batwoman has arrived!

Star Javicia Leslie shared a first look as her suited up as the superhero with a first look pic on her Instagram tonight.

Javicia replaced Ruby Rose in the title role but will be playing a different character on the show and not Kate Kane.

An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.”

Ruby bowed out of the series after suffering an injury on set.
