Young star Maddie Baillio has just landed the coveted role of Tracy Turnblad in NBC’s upcoming live musical Hairspray Live.
The musical will air on NBC on December 7, and features an all-star cast.
Already announced casting includes Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, Martin Short as Wilbur Turnblad, and Derek Hough as Corny Collins.
Maddie is currently a sophomore at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and originally hails from Texas. The casting call brought out 1,000 hopefuls, and Maddie won the role!

The DWTS pro will play the role of Corny Collins.
NBC also announced that comedian Martin Short has joined the production as well.
“We welcome Marty to the network in May in his new variety show with Maya Rudolph and we think he will be the perfect long-term companion to Harvey’s Edna,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement (via The Wrap). “And hands-down the best dancer on television and one of the best in the entertainment business, Derek Hough, will be perfect in the role of Corny Collins, the cocky song-and-dance-man who hosts the TV show every teenager in Baltimore wants to be on.”
Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein are also involved in the live musical.
