Lauren Riihimaki, aka LaurDIY, is opening up about taking down a ton of videos from her YouTube channel.
The 27-year-old YouTuber, Podcaster, and host has been candid about growing up and evolving the kind of content she makes.
Now, she’s removed hundreds of videos from her YouTube, and she took to Twitter to explain why.
“full transparency, I privated over 500 videos today… so many of the videos gave a toxic perception of what a ‘perfect’ life looked like and I also want to avoid new viewers finding old content that isn’t a representation of the content I make now,” she wrote. “I kept lots of halloween DIYs, thrift flips, youtuber merch DIYs and room makeovers and to be clear, I’m not quitting DIY videos, just finding new ways to be creative within my content that’s entertaining for an audience that isn’t necessarily wanting to follow a tutorial.”
“I also have no intention of changing the name ‘LaurDIY’. I’m SO proud of the community we’ve built and the name I’ve built for myself in the digital industry over the span of 9 years on YouTube. DIY doesn’t have to mean DIY SpRiNg RoOm dEcOr FoR 2015 u feel me,” Lauren continued. “So THANK YOU for allowing me to grow alongside so many of you who have grown up with my content. I appreciate you and am excited for so many new projects and videos this year ✨.”
Back in December, Lauren shared a new YouTube video explaining that she was taking a break from her channel. See what she said then!

Lauren Riihimaki, aka LaurDIY, is taking some time off from her main YouTube channel.
The 27-year-old crafting YouTuber and host made the announcement in a video on Sunday (December 20).
“I am going to be taking a break from this channel. I feel like I’ve had bits and pieces of this conversation over on the vlog channel, in the podcast, and even here and there within the videos of this channel,” she said. “It’s just been so much easier to authentically transition to be myself, I guess, over on the vlog channel and the podcast because those are brand new platforms that I started in 2020.”
“To be honest, I feel a lot of pressure to create a certain style or type of content here, and I just need to take some time to reevaluate the perspective and the mindset that I have towards this channel,” Lauren continued. “To be very clear, I don’t hate the content that I’ve been creating.”
As for how long she’ll be taking her break, she said, “I honestly haven’t put a number to it. It could be anywhere from three weeks to two months.”

The 26-year-old YouTuber, also known as LaurDIY, just debuted her new competition series on HBO Max.
Lauren opened up about the show and how it’s going to change things in the world of crafting.
“I think crafting has never really gotten the spotlight that it deserves and I think Craftopia is really going to change that,” she told People. “I think anything that occupies your mind and hands while getting creative is such a fun release and being able to stay busy while doing something fun is really relaxing.”
“There’s just so much creative innovation that these kids bring to the challenges,” Lauren continued. “I grew up in a different generation where we didn’t have access to learning how to master any kind of craft medium that you possibly could think of through the internet. They all really came with their own expertise, and I was there to motivate them and give a few tips, but I learned so much from them.”
“I feel like I’m in the big leagues,” she added. “Obviously producing YouTube videos is home grown and it’s very entrepreneurial, but it was such an honor to be part of such a collaborative effort. If I had an idea, they were so down to execute it. I feel like they really trusted me and my digital expertise.”
The trailer for LaurDIY‘s new show is finally here!
