The Shadowhunters star revealed in the new issue of Modeliste magazine that acting was never the plan at all.
“I actually never intended to become an actor. My initial plan was to go into finance,” she revealed.
Economics? That’s a couple of planets away from acting!
Kat continued, “Economics was my passion and I wanted to become a financial analyst or CEO or economist. However, I ran into a family friend who was directing a community theater show, gave it a short for kicks, fell in love and the rest is history. I fulfilled by economics dreams [though] by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.”
If you think that’s impressive, she’s still working on a bigger degree!
In an interview with Teen Vogue a few years ago, Kat revealed that while working on Shadowhunters, she’s still studying for her Masters in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
“I love the way that theyâve built their love story because Clary and Simon have grown up together and they know each other better than they know themselves, and now theyâre both a part of this new world and beginning to find their way,” Kat told EW. “Theyâre both changing. Clary is growing up. Sheâs beginning to fight her own battles; sheâs maturing. And Simon is as well. Simonâs no longer the nerdy guy that we saw in episode 1. Heâs becoming a vampire; heâs owning his powers; heâs starting to have a lot more confidence. And Clary is seeing this change in him…They say all things happen for a reason, and Clary and Simon are a result of that natural progression.”
“For Simon, thatâs always been one of his dreams,” Alberto said. “There was a moment at the end of episode 13 of season 1 where Simon says to Clary, âI love you.â Theyâd just captured Hodge. That was where the spark kind of happened. She said it back but it wasnât as solidified as a âfriendship loveâ as it had been. That was the first time that it mightâve been something more.”

Well…they’re not, but we’re sure that we’ll hear more of what they did share about the current season from the 2017 aTVFest in Atlanta, which they stopped by with showrunners Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin.
Meanwhile, co-star Emeraude Toubiaopened up about a storyline for Izzy that will take her in a whole different direction.
“Itâs something that was not in the books, it was just created for TV,” she dished. “As an actress itâs scary but itâs also exciting because you get to push your boundaries from what you usually do.
She added, “Izzy being powerful, it will be nice to see her really break and fall down and I hope the fans really appreciate it. Itâs been hard work, itâs been hard and I hope they like what weâve done.â
Katherine McNamara is stunning, so it’s no surprise BareMinerals is working with her on their latest social media campaign.
We got our hands of some behind-the-scenes pictures from the shoot, and they are so gorgeous.
In one set of photos, the 21-year-old Shadowhunters star is sitting at a table with all her BareMinerals beauty booty. In another set, she’s doing her makeup at a vanity in front of a seagreen wall.
Kat is loving the brand’s Original Foundation line.
On being an original, herself, she explains: “As an actor, my career requires me to constantly change and grow as I create characters. This constant desire to learn extends to the rest of my life as well. Just because I have a creative career, doesn’t mean I canât be a business woman as well. I pursued my Bachelorâs of Science degree in Business Administration and am now working toward a Masters in Literature. For me, the learning never stops – itâs what life is all about.”

JJJ still is in shock over the sudden death of Jocelyn Fray on Shadowhunters this week — we can’t get over just how shocking it actually was. We didn’t see it coming at all!
After the episode aired this week, star Katherine McNamara (Clary) opened up about why Jocelyn’s death had to happen on the show even though she lived in the book series.
“Right at the point where Clary and Jocelyn have finally settled everything and they’re starting to reconnect and they’re finally starting to form a real relationship, Jocelyn dies,” Kat shared. “When I first read the script where Jocelyn is killed, I was in shock. I had no idea. I didn’t see it coming. It took me a minute to understand why.”
She adds about changing the storyline for the show: “We have always made changes from the books and that’s what keeps our show exciting. “It is what keeps it interesting. It is what keeps people guessing and what’s so great about this new perspective on the show is it allows people to experience these characters and the story in a new way.”
Showrunner Todd Slavkin added about Clary losing her mom: “In order for Clary to grow she has to face a lot of adversity in her life and that’s what the human condition is all about.”
If you missed that scene, you can watch it below right now.
Will was just cast as Sebastian Verlac for the popular Freeform series. He turns out to be the older brother of Clary. As a result of experiments done on him by his father, Sebastian is a Shadowhunter born with demon blood.
But instead of being from the Paris Institute as he is in the books, he’ll be from London this time around.
“We really put our own spin on him the character,â showrunner Todd Slavkin shared with TVLine about the character. âAs weâve done with all the episodes youâve seen, weâve always had our own spin on everything, and Sebastian is no different.â
A fun note from the interview: Will and star Dominic Sherwood are longtime friends!
Todd shared, âWe werenât aware of this when we cast him, but he and Dominic Sherwood have this past together as kids in England. They have this real friendship off-screen, which is chilling if you know the books and can think about the irony of that.â
